Boots...
I'm going for new boots today or tomorrow. For over 300 miles I've struggled with painful foot problems which I've tried unsuccessfully to resolve with various types of inserts and footbeds. Then, invariably, after about 3-4 hours of hiking, my foot pains begin slowly and then progress getting worse and worse.
Bad boots do more than hurt your feet. They can hurt your ankles, legs, knees and even your back and spine...not good when you have over 2000 miles to hike.
So, it's off to see if I can fix these problems, because it's no fun hiking when everything below the waist is in pain.

Keep your chin up - focus not on the pain you're feeling but on the joy you're going to give to all of those smiling faces once you accomplish your goal :)
Having hiked many portions of the AT myself I know what you're going through; just replace those boots, get some more Dr. Schoal's inserts, and get goin'!
Ron, see if you can find Superfeet insoles for whatever boots you get. I have heard good things about them. It looks like Mt. Rogers Outfitters in Damascus, Foot Rx and Highlands Ski Haus & Outdoor Center in Abingdon are dealers for them.
Hang in there man! Enjoy those few days off.
Just one word...moleskin...
Hola Mi Amigo! Just caught up on ALL your blogs at once. Interesting to see how the trail takes it's toll on the body and mind. Though you call yourself a negative thinker, you push on! Maybe more positive in you than you thought?! I wish you strength, success in finding GREAT boots, and positive thoughts to carry you through the next week of pain, mice and wet clothes. This journey is AMAZING and your perspective on life and living is all the better for it. STAY STRONG! .... and smile...this is something you'll never forget! :)
